| Here is a Pilot Delux Maki-e pen form the
1970's. Perfectly mint still has the original price tag.
What is interesting about this design is not the individual plovers
(shore birds), but the way in which they are arranged on the pen.
When you hold the pen in your hand and turn it around, you see an
optical illusion that these birds are flocking and flying. It is
an amazing technique that shows depth and power within such a limited
space.
This pen is signed simply as "Pilot International Group"
in the Japanese kanji characters.
The pen is lacquered in the hiramakie technique, and makes a wonderful
conversation piece.
