Postmaster Frank Farley opened a letter addressed to the post office and
out dropped a ball point pen attached to a chain. Enclosed was this note:

"other night I had to take this pen from the post office because my fountain pen became dry. Of course that's a low excuse. It was late at night and I had to write. Anyhow, I'm very sorry. Thank you anyway.”

The note was unsigned.
