Here is one of Pilot's most popular maki-e pens. The Buddhist Scriptures. The pen was first coverd in deep black urushi lacquer and then the characters were cut from solid 24K gold foil and then set in place upon the pen. The artist then added several more layers of clear lacquer. It creates a very striking pen that gets noticed every time. The pen model is one of Pilot's 1970's Custom line. A nice over-sized pen that feels just right in your hand. The Interesting thing about this pen is that it has been blessed by a Buddhist priest and a spirit of good fortune was placed inside the pen. This ceremony was first used to bless Japanese Swords over 800 years ago, but the ceremony is still performed today and is not exclusive to swords. In the 1970's Pilot took several large crates of these pens to a temple in Asakusa where priests blessed the pens one by one. I have seen a few of these sell on ebay for over $2,000, but here is a chance to get one at a real discount. $1,490
