West Fountain Pen
Here is a mint 1930's West lacquer coated pen. This pen was among a large collection of early Platinuim's that I bought recently from the estate of a Platinum Salesman. Perhaps it is a cooincidence, and the pen was included with the Platinums, or perhaps the West Fountain Pen Company may have had some connection with Platinum Pens. The pen itself is something of a wonder. It is rare to find Japanese pens this big. It is hard to judge from the images, but this pen is nearly the same size as a Mont Blanc 149. The nib is a little smaller than a modern 149, but this nib has some wonderful vintage flex to it. The pen has two factory applied stickers. The one on the cap translates as "Finest Quality 14K Gold Nib" The sticker around the barrel translates to "Supreme Quality Product, West, 1,500 yen Both the clip and the cap band are marked :"r14K"
