Limited Edition Maki-e Music Fountain Pen
I specialize in selling vintage Japanese fountain pens, but In
the last year I have sold over a hundred contemporary music pens.
Music pens are named as such because the were designed to write
musical notes and draw scores. The nib has three tines instead of
the normal two to allow a sensational broad line on the down stroke
and a nice fine line on a side stroke. However, few of my customers
bought these fountain pens to write music, they simply wanted these
pens to enjoy a nice italic style nib.
One of the most frequent questions about the music fountain pens
was, "Do these pens come in other colors?"
Until now the resounding answer was "No." 99% of these
music pens, despite the maker, are black with gold trim. So Kamakura
Pens set out to solve this problem.
The Kamakura Limited Edition is a Platinum Music fountain pen with
the Platinum "P" logo on the nib and on the capband.
The pens were sent to one of the most famous Wajima studios for
"Kinpaku" style maki-e. This is a seldom seen style. The
Japanese traditionally prefer the more subtle makie styles, but
the artwork is breath taking, showing a sun set scene of the Kamakura
shore and the famous Enoshima island. The ammount of detail is staggering.
lots of birds and ships and cedar trees. When you turn the pen in
your hand the pen comes alive.
