Kamakura Pens

How the Manhattan Pen makers project got started

It all started when I found this stereoscopic card on ebay a few years back. When I bought the card, I thought I would be able to trace it back to Fairchild, or Aikin Lambert or one of the other big name gold pen makers. However as I started to look into this, I discovered that none of the majors were every located in the 600 block of Broadway. I started keeping notes of Manhattan pen companys dates and addresses, and that grew into the database presented here.

Refrences for this database includes pen company ads, letterheards and company stationary, Manhattan business directories, newspaper ads, and often pen instruction papers and the pens themselves when they included detailed imprints.
