The Streets

I realize that most of the vistors are interested in the gold pens, fountain pens, and pencils and such, as was I when I began researching this project. However, after spending countless hourse sifting through old directories and newspapers, the names of the lower Manhattan streets became more familar to me. I grew more interested in not only the the pensmiths, but also in the neighborhoods in which they worked. Eventually I would like to create some maps of Lower Manhattan to show where theyse pen makers were located, decade by decade, but just from looking over the lists, you will see that they are mostly grouped together. The streets themselves have a lot of stories to tell, and often this tells us more about the pensmiths.

The Images

I would like to eventually ad an image of a pen or an advertisement for each of the pen makers in the database. Obviously a herculian task. If you have an image to share, I would be happy to give you a link and credit.
