Today is Ron-san's birthday. What to get for him?
One of his favorite treasures in his fountain pen collection,
is a wax seal that belonged to Paul Wirt. As I understand it,
Paul Wirt was an important part of the United States Fountain
Pen history. Since Ron-san likes this seal so much, I thought
I would have a Kamakura Pens seal made.
In Japan we often use a seal called a "hanko" . Instead
of wax, we use a red pigment and then use the hanko to affix the
seal to a doccument. We do not use these to seal envelopes, instead
we use them as a type of signature. The Japanese have used these
for a long time throughout history, and we still use them today.
You can not open a bank accont unless you have a hanko.
Anyway, this is what I gave Ron-san for his birthday present.
At first I thougt about giving him a pen, but the man has thousands
of them.
