One of the most important things about a fountain pen is its clip. It keeps the pen safely in your pocket, and when it is in your pocket or resting in a pen tray, it is what people notice.

Not long ago, I had one of these gold clips attached to a Waterman 52. A nice writing pen, and since I had a few other identical Watermans, I didn't worry about carrying this one around in my shirt pocket. While I was riding on the Tokyo Yamanote line, a sailor from the US Navy came over to me and asked if that was a Kamakura Pens clip. I was stunned. It took me several seconds before I could reply that it indeed was a Kamakura Pens clip, and that I was Ron Dutcher. He said that he had followed my auctions for sometime, and had bid a few times, but had been sniped every time. Since he was in the Navy, he was a big Sailor Fountain Pen collector. I didn't have any Sailor pens with me, but I gave him my card, and I made he a killer deal on a 23k Sailor short pen.

It is a small world.
