One of the rarest Platinum pens you will ever find: The Platinum 10 year Ivory pen. Even rarer than some Platinum Maki-e pens The Pen is actually made of an Ivory colored celluloid. If you remember your plastic history you will recall that Celluloid was invented as a replacement for ivory to be used in billard balls. This is only the second Platinum Ivory pen that I have ever seen, and the first one was discolored and cracked. This pen here is simply stunning. This pen is part of the Koizumi collection. I recently acquired a collection
of vintage Platinum pens that had been assembled by a retired Platinum
Salesman.all housed in a Platinum Sample case. The case was from the 70's
as were half of the pens, but the other half like this pen were from right
after the war and a few from before. Some of these pens will be auctioned
off on ebay, a few of the special ones will join this catalog and a few
will end up in my private collection. |

The Platinum 10 year pens first appeard after the war, and many of them used pre-war parts. This is one of the early 10 year pens with a gold plated wartime nib. But because the nib is a steel alloy do not get the idea that it is cheap. The Japanese steel nibs were some of the nicest nibs ever made. The Alloy was adapted by an US patent for the steel in Airplane wing tips. The springy flex is hard to beat. Filling system is an early Aerometric filler. Sac is pliable and the pen is ready to write. The imprint reads: "Platinum 10 Y Pen"
