Platinum Maki-e
signed Rosui
One of the nicest maki-e pens I have found in a while.
What is special is that the pen still has the original Platinum
14k Key hole nib. Quite a rarity. Many Sellers will offer similar
Platinum pens with latter gold nibs, so be careful.
The pen is signed by the artist, Rosui his real name
was Gyokusendou Ohara and it was he who was the leader of Platinum's
maki-e group. The design is a nightengale in plum blossums. One
of the more popular Platinum designs. The plum blossums are actually
abalone shell cut into shape and then carefully laquered into place.
A technique known as raden. The pen also uses the togidashi (burnished
lacquer) and takamakie (sculpted lacquer) techniques. It truely
is a dazzling pen.
Many of Platinum's maki-e pens are unsigned and made
from 3rd party supplier parts. This pen is one of the nice pens
that is 100% Platinum made. The clip is stamped "Platinum"
as is the nib.
The pen is in perfect working order if you chose to
write with it. In any case it is a stunning pen and one that is
fun to display.
