A popular question that appears
on pen
community sites and mailing lists is, "What
fountain pen did President so and so use?" Some
people do not seem to care, but many people such as myself find the subject
rather interesting. The office of the President of the United States is
often said to be the most powerful position in the world, so it is only
natural that some pen enthusists would be interested in what fountain
pens the presidents used to sign bills into our laws.
This is strictly a research project in progress. I am hoping it will
develop into a community project, and of course I will give full credit
here to any researcher who shares information on Presidents and their
fountain pens. I will be uploading my notes here every few days, so please
check back often.
If you spot something that I got wrong, please let me know. I have worked
hard to verify everything, but still mistakes seem to slip through.
Most of my research has been on the earlier presidents, since these are
the pens that I find the most interesting. I am confident it will be easier
to research the latter presidents and their pens.
If you have any clues or questions, please send an email with the Mail
Form.
