Here is one of Pilot's Hardest to find pens. The
Buddhist Scriptures in hand-engraved sterling silver. The pen is
in the same design as Pilot's most popular maki-e pen, the Hyomon
Scriptures pen.
 |
However this pen, instead of being lacquer coated
with little gold leaf kanji characters, this pen has the kanji
characters deeply engraved into the silver. The maki-e pens
typically finish on ebay for around $1,200, but the silver pens
are much harder to find. |

This pen was part of the Aihara collection, Pilot's Vice presidents
in the 1970's. There were many rare maki-e pens in that collection,
but this sterling pen was the one that stood out the most when I
showed off the collection to members of the Tokyo Pen club. They
said that only a few hundred of these were ever made and never released,
simply given away to executives.
The pen is based upon Pilot's Custom line that was released in
the late 1960's. This pen is a little latter, probably around 1975.
The nib is 18K White Gold and it goes well with the sterling barrel
and cap.
I doubt you will see this pen anywhere else, if you do send me
an e-mail I'd like to see it.
