I've seen it printed elsewhere that Paul Wirt licensed his lever filler, however, Paul Wirt did indeed hold his own patent for a lever filler fountain pen. It would be easy to assume that Wirt licensed a lever since he licenesed quite a few other filling systems.

Nevertheless Wirt's lever was a little late. By the time Wirt was producing his lever fountain pens, his company was already losing ground to Waterman, Parker and Sheaffer.
