Rotarians Honor Veteran
Member for Activities
Tribute to Mr. Wirt
Albert W. Duy, Esq., spoke about Paul E. Wirt: "I feel
highly honored to have this opportunity and privilege on behalf of the
Bloomsburg Rotary Club on its "Distinguished Service Night"
to extend felicitations to a man who, for fifty years has been so closely
identified with the progress of our community, and to express to him our
most sincere affection and regard.
"In every civic project, in every movement for the
industrial growth of Bloomsburg, during the many years of his activity,
he gave unsparingly of his time, his means and his wise counsel and advice.
"He had long been, and still is identified in bank
circles; was the first president of the great Magee Carpet Company, President
of the Bloomsburg Water Comany, and through many years of financial stress
and strain of the Bloomsburg Normal School, helped to guide that institution
in its present position of eminence, as the leading State Teachers College
in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where he still serves with distinction
as its vice-president and a member of the Board of Trustees.
"His distinguished service has not been confined to
his local community, for he was the pioneer in the fountain pen industry
and his name and invention became internationally known, with offices
in London and Paris and in principal cities of America.
"He has given many years of devoted service to his
church as a leading vestryman of St. Paul's and many times Deputy to Diocesan
Conventions.
"Paul: Bloomsburg Rotary Club is honored to have you
as a member and in token of our esteem, let me express the hope that we
may have the benefit of your genial fellowship and efficient services
as "Sergeant at Arms for many years to come.
